Plein Air Paint-Out
I have been informally organizing a plein air paint-out in Alaska for eight years now. It’s called “On the Scene in Alaska”, and it takes place in the charming and friendly Alaskan harbor town of Seward on the second weekend of June, and in Homer, a fishing village surrounded by magnificent mountains and inhabited by many artists, usually on a weekend in August, when the fireweed is spectacular. These are two of the most scenic spots in the country, if not the world.
During the weekend the artists paint with friends old and new (we have maps of painting sites and cellphone numbers posted at a central point) and get together for lunches and a cookout on the beach or dinner at a local restaurant. On the last day we have a show of the work we’ve produced at a local venue. We have had participants from all over Alaska as well as the Lower Forty-eight, Hawaii, Canada, Russia, and France.
There is no cost to join and every level of artist is welcome; there are no age restrictions, except that young children must come with a responsible adult.
Andy offers art lessons for teens and adults. Please click below for more information.
